Aside from coffee being an “acid-forming food”, possibly interfering with your sleep and causing dehydration – it greatly elevates cortisol.
If your body is under too much stress and is producing too much cortisol, your adrenal glands go into overdrive.
For women – we produce most of our androgens in our adrenal glands.
Androgens are “male hormones” which basically trigger more oil production.
Simply put – when we produce androgens in excess, we allow an environment for more breakouts.
While matcha still contains caffeine, it also contains an antioxidant polyphenol called EGCG that can have a positive impact on your hormone levels (especially androgens), resulting in decreased inflammation and sebum in the skin.
