I personally believe that to resolve any hormonal imbalance, you need to address the root cause and which factors may be contributing to it.
The problem with most conventional acne treatments is that they solely focus on managing the symptom – not the root cause.
Hormonal birth control pills are a conventional treatment for acne.
I find it ironic how many people go on hormonal birth control to help “balance hormones” – yet by adding in synthetic hormones, it is just treating the symptoms and not addressing the root cause.
Hormonal birth control works by overriding the normal hypothalamus-pituitary- ovarian hormonal axis and suppressing ovulation.
Again, this method is not a cure (but a quick unsustainable fix) for hormonal issues, as it does not address the underlying issue of the imbalance.
It is important to know that if you had any hormonal imbalances before starting the hormonal contraceptives (irregular periods, acne, cramps etc) – you are likely to have them return, as the root cause was never addressed.
It is also important to know that if a hormonal imbalance is left untreated, it can lead to serious long-term issues like endometriosis, cardiovascular disease and even certain cancers.
