Gaining weight on vacation or just holding water?

If your socks leave a ring around your leg or your hair elastic leaves a mark on your arm – you’re holding water. When you can barely remove your rings because your fingers are swollen – you’re holding water. If you feel like your gained several pounds in just a day – you’re likely just holding water.

What to do about it?

1. Stay hydrated (if you’re dehydrated, your body will hold onto more water – hello survival mechanism)

2. Eat more potassium-rich foods! If you over-indulged – it was likely in carb/sodium rich foods (which lead to water retention). Instead of cutting out sodium (not recommended as if levels are too low, it will also lead to imbalances/fluid retention) focus on potassium-rich foods to help balance sodium levels and increase urine production (dark leafy greens, avocados and bananas are your friends)

3. Lastly – get some movement in and enjoy your holiday!
